Muhammad Shamoon. His designation is secretary of Punjab Pharmacy Council. As pharmacy is the fastest growing, dynamic profession offering a wealth of opportunities. Many occupations offer to improve society’s quality of life, the profession of pharmacy involves the preservation of life itself. While serving the society, a secure professional future is reasonably guaranteed with the satisfaction of personal accomplishment. Punjab Pharmacy Council is a Statuary body functioning under Federal Legislation.
Punjab Pharmacy Council, established under Pharmacy Act 1967 as amended in 1973, with the crystal clear objective to regulate the practice of pharmacy. The Secretary Health Government of the Punjab acts as President (Ex-officio) while the secretary, bears the office of Punjab Pharmacy Council to execute and exercise all the legislative functions (Section-23 of the Pharmacy Act, 1967) as;
- Registration & Renewal of Pharmacist (Register-A)
- Enrollment of Pharmacy Apprentices (Register-C) [Discontinued]
- Examination & Registration of Pharmacy Assistant (Register-B)
- Examination & Registration of Pharmacy Technician (Register-B)
- Prepare and maintain Registers of ;
- Graduate/Post Graduate Pharmacist
- Apprentices in Pharmacy
- Pharmacy Assistant & Pharmacy Technician
- Issuance of Good Standing Certificate.
- Verification of Certificate
- Publication of Text Books of Pharmacy for Pharmacy Assistant & Pharmacy Technician as per the approved curriculum.
- On the Job Training of Pharmacists/Drug Inspectors.
- Refresher Course for Qualified Dispensers/Chemists.
- Inspect institutions (in coordination with Central Council) imparting pharmacy education to ensure standardized Education and Training.
- To do such other act & things as it may be empowered or required to do by the Pharmacy Act, 1967.
Punjab Pharmacy Council is generating funds itself for its legislative operationlaities, not receiving any grant/financial support from provincial government. All the financial matters exercise through joint account, which operates by mean of cheques, signed jointly by the President and secretary Punjab Pharmacy Council.
Examination of Pharmacy Technician
Eligibility Criteria: Minimum Matric with Sciences. Duration: 2 Years, regular course. Paper Schedule: Part – I; Theory Paper – 4, Practical Paper – 4. Part – II; Theory Paper – 5, Practical Paper – 3
Examination of Pharmacy Assistant
Eligibility Criteria: Minimum Matric with Sciences or General Science. Duration: 2 Years, apprenticeship training under supervision of registered & notified pharmacist by PPC. OR Qualified dispenser with PMF
Paper Schedule: Theory Paper – 3; Practical Paper – 1
Committees Working Under Punjab Pharmacy Council
The council may constitute committees as it deems fit to advice & assist the Council. The Council constitutes following Committees:-
- Education Committee. To deal with syllabus, publication and education/training programs.
- Law & Ethics Committee. To deal with legal matters.
- Budgetary & Service Rules Committee. To deal with budget and financial matters as well as service of the employees.
- Examination and Disciplinary Committee. To deal with examination related issues.
