Islamabad (Pharmaceutical Review) Ministry of Health, Government of the Punjab has issued a notification, printed in the Punjab weekly gazette dated February 10, 2010, page No. 951, in exercise of power conferred upon him under Section 44 of the Drug Act. 1976 (XXXI of 1976) which empower government to make rules under Act. The governor of the Punjab has made amendments in the Punjab Drug Rules, 2007 after previous publication of these amendments. In rule 1, sub rule (3) for word “three” the word “ten” is substituted. Thus; the Punjab Drug Rule 2007 was suspended for ten years further.
In response the this notification the executives of the Pharmacist Federation of Pakistan; Dr. Taha Nazir General Secretary (Pakistan), Malik Irshad Hussain President Punjab, Fiaz Ahmad Faizi General Secretary Punjab, Asad Imran President Lahore, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Kashif Secretary Lahore, Dr. Shoaib Zafar President Faisalabad, Aziz Ur Rehman President Sargodha Division, Abdul Rub Mujahid President Bahawalpur, Muhammad Bin Ibrahim President Multan, Malik Muhammad Waheed President Jehlum, Syed Muzzammil Masood Zaidi President Islamabad, Dr. Fowad Ali Bungush Secretary Islamabad, Iradat Hussain President Rawalpindi, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Abdullah President Bhakkar, Malik Sharif Awan President Gujranwala Division, Dr. Hafiz Muhammad Faisal Secretary Gujranwala, Mr Imran Anwar President Sheikhupura, Dr Kalim Ullah Khan Niazi President Mianwali said these amendments are biased , unfair and based on unrealistic approach of Government of the Punjab. In this wary, non-professional personals are secured to sell the life saving drugs. The way of dispensing, distribution and delivery of drugs is totally different than grocery, vegetable, grains and garments. Thus; this amendments should be withdrawn instantly. The non-skilled people shopudl never be allowed to involve in health care practice. Moreover; they have emphasized the government to withdraw this notification soon as possible.
