Ok, so I will stop sending you these messages … if you do one last favor for me (for all of us)!!
Tell your friends and colleagues who work in these areas:
- regenerative medicine
- organ-on-a-chip
- tissue engineering
- tissue and organ printing
- pre-clinical drug safety testing
- drug activity screening
- 3D bioprinting
- personalized oncology diagnostic testing
- tissue biofabrication
We will be holding the last planning session via webinar on Monday, July 18th from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM (EDT): register HERE.
TELL PEOPLE TO JOIN US — WE WANT YOUR INPUT TO CREATE A NATIONAL INITIATIVE!
The Human Genome Project has changed the landscape radically, forever! And now we’re going to do the same thing in this area by bringing solutions, at scale, to the world’s population.
The U.S. Federal government is providing $80 million in kick starter funding over the next 5-7 years to bring together the:
- regenerative medicine
- organ-on-a-chip
- tissue engineering
- tissue and organ printing
- pre-clinical drug safety testing
- drug activity screening
- 3D bioprinting
- personalized oncology diagnostic testing
- tissue biofabrication
… parts of the country, and the expertise and capabilities from industry, institutions of higher education, and federal and state agencies to support a nationwide infrastructure to move ideas out of research and into large-scale production.
Why? Between 2012 and 2014 seven federal agencies invested—that is, conducted or funded—approximately $2.89 billion in regenerative medicine research, but most of it has not yet seen the ‘light of day’ or is falling into the ‘Valley of Death’.
As an initiative being spearheaded by the Department of Defense (DoD), we urgently need to come together to create a world-class, nationwide program to realize the promise of regenerative medicine. The DoD is coordinating the creation of Manufacturing Innovation Institutes in the United States and, via their Manufacturing Technology Program, have issued this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA).
One Million Solutions in Health (OMSiH) is partnering with Northeastern University, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Harvard University & the Wyss Institute, University of California Berkeley, Southwest Research Institute, and others to submit to this program. We are seeking everyone from across the United States to join us from industry, states, educational institutions, etc.
What’s in it for YOU (individuals) or YOUR organization? JOIN us!
- Our plan will include a number of Regions of Excellence across the country who will receive continuous support to progress the Advanced Tissue Biofabrication Manufacturing Innovation Institute (ATB-MII) in their area of expertise:
- Scientific/Technological Manufacturing and Distribution Areas of Focus:
- Thrust Area 1: Cell & Material Selection & Sourcing
- Thrust Area 2: Biofabrication Platforms
- Thrust Area 3: Process Design and Automation
- Thrust Area 4: Tissue Finishing and Testing Technologies
- Scientific/Technological Manufacturing and Distribution Areas of Focus:
- Pre and Post “Enablers” — Areas of Focus for additional Regions of Excellence:
- New Technology and Research (Universities, Academics, R&D Partners)
- Training, Workforce Development & Community/Technical Colleges
- Commercialization, Investment, Sustainability Experts
- GMP Data Registry, Cell Bank Database, Test Assay Repository, Controls & Validation Experts
- Standards Development, Computer Modeling Experts
- See links below for more areas in which you can participate …
- What our team will also do for you, as a start-up or member of this network:
- Support in preparing your manufacturing to commercialization plans …
- Business plan preparation
- IP submission support
- Introductions to our network of investors
- Resource database of qualified personnel
- Training & Best Practices Repository
- Curated Database of Science + Project Activity
- Non-Dilutive Commercialization Packages Awarded each year totaling $1 to $3 million
- Development of a Sustainability Model with Profit Participation for Members
- Support in preparing your manufacturing to commercialization plans …
We are writing history for the next generation of medicine … and improving everyone’s lives!
What’s in it for you … a source of RESOURCES, as outlined above, plus contacts, connections and potential future business opportunities as our goal is to OPERATIONALIZE this sector of health care for the US, and beyond.
This is a one-of-a-kind, first-of-its-kind FEDERAL GRANT … the resulting Technology Investment Agreement (TIA) will be for the purpose of establishing a state-of-the-art, end-to-end, sustainable Manufacturing Innovation Institute (MII) INFRASTRUCTURE in support of advanced tissue biofabrication manufacturing (aka regenerative medicine or cell & organ printing).
We would like 100 to 150+ organizations to join us from across the United States. Those from industry, academia, state government, educational institutions, investors, lawyers, consultants – and those with life sciences manufacturing expertise (see the Vision and Partner Expertise document below). As well, we welcome organizations who are not from the US, but work and employ people in the US. We need everyone!
Some additional background is on our website, and we have prepared an overview of our ideas for this submission, and the partners we are seeking, in the links to the attachments found below. A background article by one of the leaders in this area in the government (Bradley Ringeisen), and a One Million Solutions in Health backgrounder, are on our website.
The opportunity is to obtain $80 million in federal funding, which would be matched 1 to 1 by those organizations/individuals who are involved (in funds or in kind), essentially having up to 50% of any project being covered by the federal funding.
The key goal of this initiative is to BRING THE WHOLE COUNTRY TOGETHER!
Since the final Concept Paper is due July 29th, we would like your Statements of Interest in the next two weeks, preferably. (Example letters can be found here.) The government has a VERY tight timeline! We will also share with you how you can help to ensure your key contributions and areas of expertise can be included in the Concept Paper as part of the Advanced Tissue Biofabrication plan for the future.
We will be holding a planning session via webinar on Monday, July 18th from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM (EDT): register HERE. PLEASE JOIN US — WE WANT YOUR INPUT!
If you have any questions, or wish to refer this opportunity on to others, please do so, as our goal is to be as inclusive as possible to support this very important endeavor across America.
