General Questions
How will I know if PEBC received my application?
Please be advised high volumes of applications arrive daily into our office. There can be a delay in processing depending on the incoming volume. Once your application has been processed, you should receive an automated e-mail confirmation of receipt. We only notify candidates if something is missing or incorrectly submitted, to allow them the opportunity to supply or correct it. Your official notification of acceptance into an examination will be mailed out to you approximately three weeks prior to the examination date.
PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT the PEBC office by telephone, fax or email to confirm receipt of your application or to check your examination location assignment.
How do I update my contact information?
Email your updated contact information to pebcinfo@pebc.ca.
What is the procedure for withdrawing from an examination?
If you know you will not be able to write the exam in the sitting you applied for, you will need to withdraw in writing (e-mail, fax or letter) and re-apply with a new application, fees and photos for the next sitting you wish to take. Please refer to our Withdrawal and Refund policies at our website under the relevant examination header.
If I withdraw from an examination does it count as one of my attempts?
No, you must attend the examination in order for it to count as an attempt.
Can I postpone my examination?
No. You must withdraw from the examination you are currently accepted for and submit a new application and fee for the next examination you wish to write.
What if I wish to change the location of my examination?
You will need to send a written request by mail or courier. You will need to include the site change fee of $50CAD payable by Canadian certified cheque, bank draft or money order. Please check the information for the examination you wish to write as there is a different site change deadline for each examination.
If I fail an examination, when will I receive my feedback report?
The PEBC will send feedback reports automatically to all those candidates who were not successful in their exam(s). The reports should be ready 6-8 weeks from the date that the results were released. They will be mailed as soon as they are ready. Yours will be mailed to the permanent address that we have on file for you. Kindly send us an email or note in writing any time your address changes.
I would like clarification of my feedback report. How do I arrange this?
If you would like to have a discussion with a PEBC staff member about your feedback report, please email PEBC and provide us with a block of time over a two-week period along with a daytime telephone number where you can receive a call during business hours.
I have used up all my attempts at the examination. Can I petition for an additional attempt?
Candidates are permitted three attempts at a PEBC examination, after which they are required to complete remediation prior to a fourth (final) attempt. The only situation in which candidates may be allowed an additional attempt at an examination is if they are granted a “No Standing” status on an examination sitting on the basis of medical conditions or compassionate grounds (such as bereavement). However, petitions for consideration of a “No Standing” status are only considered if they are received within 7 calendar days after the examination, accompanied by appropriate, official supporting documentation. Petitions received more than 7 calendar days after an examination (e.g., upon receipt of an unsuccessful examination result) are NOT considered.
How do I contact the Registrar directly?
The Registrar is not available for telephone discussions or in-person meetings with candidates. Matters requiring the Registrar’s consideration must be documented in writing and sent to the attention of the Registrar either by mail, fax or email (to the general PEBC email –pebcinfo@pebc.ca).
I lost my PEBC certificate. What can I do to get a replacement?
If you would like a replacement PEBC Certificate, you will need to make a statutory declaration in the presence of either a lawyer, notary public or commissioner for oaths, stating you lost your certificate or it was damaged (whatever the case may be) and require a replacement. There is also a $100 administrative fee in the format of either a certified cheque, money order or bank draft made payable to PEBC, for a replacement certificate. Please include your name and current mailing address when requesting your replacement certificate.
International Graduates
I received my pharmacy degree outside of North America. What are the steps I need to follow for PEBC certification?
If you received your Bachelor of Pharmacy outside of North America, your first step is to have your documents evaluated. You will need to apply for this. Please visit our website and click on Document Evaluation where you will find all the necessary information and print the application form.
Currently, the fee for Document Evaluation is CDN$530 made payable to the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada.
You will need to contact your graduating institution where you received your Bachelor of Pharmacy and request them to send your transcripts, currently dated, directly to us:
The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada
717 Church Street
Toronto, ON Canada M4W 2M4
You will also need to contact your Licensing Authority and request that they send a currently-dated Licensing Statement directly to our office.
You will then need to write the Evaluating Examination. The next sitting will be held July 4 & 5, 2012, with the deadline to apply being Thursday April 5, 2012. This information is also at our website. The fee for this exam is $515. The examination will also be available overseas in London, England at an additional administrative fee of $365.
After you have passed the Evaluating Examination, you must also go through the Qualifying Examination, which can only be completed within Canada.
We do not supply old exam papers for any purposes. You will find a Syllabus outlining the topics and sub-topics you may encounter in the Evaluating Examination which is free of charge from our website under Evaluating Exam. This booklet assists candidates in preparing for their areas of study for the Evaluating Examination. If you are unable to access this information online and would like a hard copy, please send an International Money Order in the amount of $35 in Canadian funds made payable to the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada. Upon receipt of your payment, we shall send you a Syllabus.
The PEBC does not require language proficiency testing, such as TOEFL, TSE or IELTS. You may wish to contact the provincial licensing authority of the province in which you wish to practice to enquire about their language proficiency requirements.
As for immigration questions, please contact your local Canadian Embassy and enquire with them. You do not need to be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to undergo Document Evaluation or write our exams. You may apply to write the exams in Canada on a visitor’s visa. Once your exam application has been processed, and your primary address is outside of Canada, PEBC issues a letter of confirmation you may present to the Embassy in support of your visa application.
If you are unable to access the information and application forms via the internet, please remit a certified cheque, money order or bank draft in the amount of $35, made payable to PEBC, along with your written request including your name and address, and we shall post the information package out to you.
I received my pharmacy degree outside of Canada. My university cannot send an original, currently-dated transcript. What should I do?
As stated in our literature, we do not accept a photocopy of a transcript. If the University cannot send an original currently-dated transcript, please ask them to send an attested photocopy attached to a currently-dated letter (written on University letterhead and signed by a University official) stating that they are unable to send an original transcript and the reason why. Alternatively, you may ask the affiliated college you attended to send an original, currently-dated transcript directly to our office.
I graduated outside of Canada and have not yet received my final university degree certificate. What do I need to do?
If you have not yet received your final university degree certificate, you will need to either provide PEBC with a letter from the Dean of your Faculty of Pharmacy stating your final university degree certificate has not yet been issued and when it will be issued; OR, make a statutory declaration in the presence of a lawyer, notary public or commissioner for oaths, stating your final university degree certificate has not yet been issued and when it will be issued. PEBC does not accept the provisional certificate.
I am applying for Pharmacist Document Evaluation. What do I need to do if my documents are not in English or French?
PEBC requires an original, currently-dated transcript sent directly to our office by the university. And PEBC requires an original, currently-dated licensing statement (letter of good standing) sent directly to our office by the licensing authority. If either of these documents is issued in a language other than English or French, the candidate must also send us an official translation into English or French.
PEBC requires a certified copy of the University Degree Certificate. This means the lawyer, notary public or commissioner for oaths sees the original, makes a photocopy and signs that photocopy to make it a certified copy. The candidate sends us the certified copy of the University Degree Certificate with their application for Document Evaluation. If the University Degree Certificate is issued in a language other than English or French, PEBC will also require an official translation into English or French.
If the candidate’s birth certificate was issued in a language other than English or French, PEBC will also require an official translation of this document into English or French, along with a certified copy of the birth certificate in its original issued language.
In all cases where an official translation is applicable, PEBC requires the original of the official translation.
I want to apply for Pharmacist Document Evaluation, but my application and documents will arrive at PEBC at different times. Is this a problem?
PEBC expects your transcript and licensing statement to arrive separately, as they must be sent directly to our office by the issuing authority; that is, the university and the licensing body. We save all incoming documents, so if they arrive before your application for Document Evaluation, don’t worry. All documents will be matched up based on the information you provide on your application form.
Do I need to wait until my Document Evaluation has been completed to apply for the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination?
No. You can submit your Evaluating Examination application with your Document Evaluation application and they will be evaluated together. It is not recommended that you wait until after your Document Evaluation has been completed as you may miss an upcoming Evaluating Examination deadline.
After I complete Document Evaluation, how long do I have to pass the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination?
Once your documents have been favourably evaluated, you have up to five years to pass the Evaluating Examination.
What happens if I do not successfully pass the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination within 5 years of completing Document Evaluation?
If you are unable to write the Evaluating Examination within the five-year period from your Document Evaluation or if you have any remaining attempts and the five years from Document Evaluation has expired, your file will be closed. You will then need to request in writing (e-mail, fax, or letter) to have your file re-opened, including in your request your full name, PEBC ID# and current mailing address. You will then receive instructions in a letter sent via Canada Post informing you what you must do to have your file re-opened for you to take your remaining attempts for a renewed five-year period.
After I successfully complete the Pharmacist Evaluating Examination, how long do I have to pass the Pharmacist Qualifying Examination?
After you complete the Evaluating Examination, there is no specified timeframe during which you must take and pass the Qualifying Examination. However, both Parts of the Qualifying Examination must be successfully completed within a three-year period of passing one Part. If you do not complete the process within this time period, you will be required to apply to the Board asking for the opportunity to take the remaining Part. If the examination and blueprint have changed significantly since you started the Qualifying Examination process, you may be required to complete both Parts.
I have completed Pharmacist Document Evaluation. How do I arrange for PEBC to send a copy of my Licensing Statement to a provincial or territorial regulatory authority?
If you would like PEBC to send a copy of your Licensing Statement or Letter of Good Standing to a provincial or territorial regulatory authority, you will need to send a written request and a certified cheque or money order or bank draft in the amount of CAN$50.00. The Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada will send the document directly to the appropriate provincial or territorial regulatory authority.
